London, day one!

Lopulta selvittiin hostelille lopen uupuneina puoli kolmen aikaan yöllä.

Our flight left from Cork at 21:45 which was quite late but since the most important factor for us was the cheap price, it didn't matter. We had dinner at the airport and we girls managed to spend a lot of time in those few shops that Cork airport has. I almost bought Cecilia Ahern's "Over The Rainbow" book which I have wanted to get already for long. I think I have to buy it before going back home. My mom read it before Christmas and told that in book they talk about all the places we have visited here: Killarney, Galway etc. After all, I chose to buy only the newest issue of Cosmo which was just as bad as the Finnish version :D
The flight went really fast because surprise surprise... I slept almost the whole time. And actually the whole flight only took like one hour. From Stansted we took train to Liverpool Street just to notice that underground was not operating anymore. So, we had to wait for a taxi over a half an hour with many other tourists. After all, we arrived in hostel at 2:30am feeling unbelievably exhausted!

Saturday morning started in quite tired atmosphere but we forced ourselves to get up little bit before 9 o'clock and went to have a breakfast. Breakfast was not included to room price but it turned out to be so good that we were willing to pay 5,90 pounds for it. It included: ham, turkey, cheese, soft cheese, warm bread rolls (yammy!!), toast, beans, cereals, myesli, two different kinds of youghurts and fruit salad. There was also 3 different kind of juice, tea, coffee, hot chocolate and small chocolate croissants, so it was a good value for money. Me and Sini ate so much every morning that we survived easily until the afternoon.

In Saturday's programme we had the hop on hop off bus tour with Golden Tours company which we had purchased online. The weather was great, sun was shining from the blu sky and it was so warm that you could easily just wear your denim jacket. The bus drove around city centre and there was many bus stops where you could get off when you want and then get back on to the next bus. We sat in the second floor in roofless space so it was also possible to get good photos from there. We got off at St. Charles (??) cathedral and strolled around there for a while. After that we decided to continue by foot and enjoy of the sunshine. We walked to the Tower of London and took river boat from there to London Eye. River Cruise was also included to the price of our bustour and it was nice extra, especially when the weather was so good :) At London Eye there were A LOT of people and all together we were queueing for almost two hours. But it was worth of all the waiting because scene was just unbelievable! I have been there once before but I was so scared back then that I don't even remember anything about it. :D Now I luckily wasn't and me and girls took a lot of great pictures.

After London Eye we walked to Big Ben and Westminster Abbey and then we were so tired that we decided to return somewhere closer to hostel and find some place where to eat. We also managed to buy Oyster cards from the machine at underground station, I am so proud of ourselves! Oyster card turned out to be very handy because you could top up the amount you want and if you use everything, you can always top up more. In the end, you can get the money that is left and deposit of the card (5 pounds) back if you return it to the ticket office at some underground station.

We ended up having a dinner in Nando's where no one of us had been before. I actually liked the concept a lot because it was a combination of fast food and normal restaurant and there was also some healthier options available. I ordered chicken wrap with salad and as a dessert we took frozen youghurt which you could eat as much as you can. And of course we ate a lot :D After the dinner we returned to hostel and took some rest before getting ready for the evening. Our original plan was to stay somewhere close to hostel and have couple of beers in a pub. When we entered the first pub and ordered our drinks it turned out that all the pubs in that area are closing at 11pm so after all we ended up to go to city centre. We made a big mistake when we told our taxi driver to take us to some good clubbing area.... ending up at Soho gay district. Guys were so terrified when they realised it :D We strolled around for a while and when we finally found one small club which didn't have 10 pounds entry we decided to get in there and stay there the whole evening. Place was weird and I think that actually half of the customers were on drugs and more than half were guy but it didn't matter. I like gay people, they know how to dance and have fun! We danced a lot and it was surprisingly good night after all. Little bit before 3 am we took taxi (or first we tried to get taxi like half an hour before finding an illegual taxi which promised to take us back home and to whom we paid too much money) and went straight to the bed.

Sellainen oli meidän eka Lontoo-päivä, jatkoa seuraa!
That was our first day in London, to be continued!

Team Finland on the tourist bus!
